freezers in garage

Hi guys, I am looking to put a new freezer in my un-heated garage,would this be ok or are thier only certain types of freezer that will work correctly.

Most electrical equipment will specify the upper and lower operating temperature limits. I can't see any problem if it is a chest freezer.

my freezer is in the garage - works perfectly well and is probably better off for being in a cold environment. the unit has to work harder if in a warm place. just watch for mice chewing the cable though.

If it is just a freezer and not a fridge freezer it should be OK. Some cheaper fridge freezers only have one compressor which chills the freezer every time the fridge requires cooling. The distribution of the coolant is based on it being inside a heated house. If the temperature outside the fridge drops below the temperature required inside the fridge then the compressor never comes on and the freezer warms up to the ambient temperature and if that is above freezing everything in the freezer will thaw.

Chest freezer or standard one .. fine.
Stops the garage freezing too because of the slight warmth from exchanger.

Thanks for the answers,only Comet do not reccomend to put thier freezers in an unheated garage??

Well mines from Comet, it's an Electrolux, and has been sitting in my unheated garage for the last 4 years with no problems.

Hotpoint freezers don't work very well in cold unheated rooms/garages. It was on watchdog a few years back. I expect that comet have put that recommendation as a result. I have one but it does not work how you would expect it to.
