Smelly washing

Has anyone ever had a problem with clean washing coming out of the machine with a strange smelly tinge to it. Not so much of a smell as it comes out of the machine but when it has dried on the line in fresh air, there is a distinctive odour. strangly enought not on all the garments I have tried everything and can not get to the bottom of it. I have tried different detergents different conditioners.
I did not have this problem in my last house. Only since we moved into a new house on a new developement. Would be grateful for any ideas X

Some fabrics absorb odours from the air more than others. Does it only happen with artificial fabrics and does it depend on the sun shining on them.

Hummm thats a hard one because it can also happen if the clothes are put in the tumble dryer and the fact that it did not happen in the last house. Although I would say it seems to be the same articles that retain the smell

Does it also happen with anything you've hand washed? Does it also happen with clothes you dry indoors? Answers to this may point to whether it's the machine, your water or something in the air where you live.

My friend has just had this problem and it was the seal which had gone mouldy and was tainting the clothes.

I've had this problem and it was due to the old machine being a bit damp, only emptying/cleaning the filter seemed to help it for a few washes each time.

Every few months I put mine and a 90 degree wash, with nothing in it, and put some bleach in the soap draw - works wonders!

I had the same problem with a pair of pants,made of that cheap nylon type stuff.Despite washing and drying many different ways,they always stank till one of the kids mates sprayed rather a lot of very strong smelling anti-persperant.I could not be bothered washing them for ages,them hey presto! No smell.
I also now put my machine on the hottest wash with just soda crystals and washing powder in,be nice to the hard working thing!

I had a new washing installed in my new house. In my old house the water outlet pipe went into a separate pipe to the grid outside. In this house the water outlet is connected under the sink on the same outlet as the sink waste. Water poured down the sink was seeping back down the washing machine waste pipe back into the washing machine. I adjusted the washing machine machine waste pipe (by untwisting it) and this solved the problem.

I suggest you put two bio washing tablets in the machine as you normally would, stick the machine on its hottest wash, cottons, and let it do a full cycle without any clothes in it, that should do the trick. Do you tend to regularly use liquid detergent? Try alternating your washes with tablets instead.
