Lets say you've read a book and believe that it would make a great film. What is the method of action that you would have to take? Also how little or expensive can this be? Any help or advice will be appreciated as im completely in the dark about this subject.

Have you written something you would want to try and see be made into a film?

Thanks redcrx I'll look into it.
Garmard unfortunately no, the literature I have read is the greatest story I've ever read and would make a great hollywood/Avatar type blockbuster but it belongs to another company so Id just like to see what the basic mechanisms of getting it from the book stage to film would be.
the main difficulty is persuading the suits in the film industry to take a leap of faith. I wish they'd stop remaking old films and have a go at some of the many great stories that could be turned into film. What's the book?
One step would be to approach the publisher of the book, they hold some rights to the book, as well as the author. The publisher would help act as the author's agent. Also, you never know, but a film or TV production company may have already secured the rights.
One of the finest storylines I've ever read which would make a great movie is'The Matarese Circle' by Robert Ludlum, I really could not put it down, and also Paul Gallico's 'The Man Who Was Magic'
