We have used the same vet for 30 years(with different pets) and always been happy . One day a MISTAKE might happen (hopefully not) but that's what it will be and the vet (in the practice we use) would be devastated too. To want to vilify or punish them for a genuine mistake would not bring my pet back.Pointless.If a vet was practising while drunk or on drugs different story. The result would be that all vets the good and the bad would charge more as there insurance premiums would rocket and by the very nature of them being mistakes they would still happen
I watched this just now..it was very moving...and was surprised that RCVS could not be struck off. With the exception of one I have been lucky with vets. One would imagine though that if people in the human medical profession were accountable to a professional body it would be the same for vets! Even builders and plumbers can be sued. I do think that given the impact of neglect or carelessness not to mention the vet fees there could be an effective way of monitoring practice.
