Why do dogs not like being washed?

My dog totally hates being washed. I thought she would be used to it be now. Why doesn't she get used to it?

I don't know...my dog use to love it. Loads of times I ran a bath...pottered off to get towels and come back to the dog sitting in my bath water.

not enough info...how old is your dog? what breed? how do you wash? her how often? why?

my pooch is about 14 years old. I have to wash her about every 2 weeks with Episoothe shampoo as she has dry skin. I have to leave it on her for about 10 minutes before I rinse.

Maybe she has got used to it, that doesn't mean she is going to like it and stand quietly.

The thing to do is to is to maybe change tactics, more info on why your dog dislikes it would be helpful, maybe the shower, maybe being forced into the bath, could be lots of different things.

Is that the only way to treat her dry skin? If she's 14 and hates something I'd be inclined to see what the options are

My mastiff has a bath before every show and whenever he needs it. He loves the shampooing, I guess he's just pervy about being touched. Muchlove have you tried a tin of sardines regularly. After all the expensive shampoos and creams didn't work for a Neapolitan Mastiff my vet said try sardines. They worked and he loved them.

My westie goes to the dog grooming every couple of months...she hates it....shakes and shivers all the way there in the car! When I give her a bath at home its a nightmare to even get her in the bathroom! Even when she's been for walkies in the rain or had a drink of water and its on her whiskers she'll go and dry herself on something for ages - what a whimp!!!

thugulike - I was out shopping this afternoon and I thought about giving her sardines, so i've bought a few tins for her. I think abit of oil in her diet might help. Spooky you suggested that before i read it. thanks
