Right, got to get down to some real cleaning over the next few days ready for OH surprise 60th birthday party. We` re having a few friends and family over the weekend. After Ive had a good clean I want to be able to get the house smelling really nice and wondered what anyone could recommend to give a really nice aroma around the house. Dont want any of those plug in things or sprays but something a bit more natural but not overpowering. Any ideas ? Thanks in advance

woofgang - I like the idea of candles. I think we have a candle shop in our small town. I`ll pop and have a whiff.
xstitcher- I have windows and doors open whenever I can as I`m a fresh air freak. The smell of bread seems nice. Not keen on cinnamon and cloves. Tried it once at Christmas and didn`t really like the smell. But thanks anyway.

I put lemon and lime peel in a glass bowl with about a pint of water and 'cook ' in the microwave for 30 mins...opening the door every 5 mins or so to let the steam waft out...Also used scented candles sparingly and put a few drops of essential oil on the bulbs in my table lamps when the bulb gets warm the smell spreads around the room. In the summer I use citrus scents in Autumn /winter something more woody and at christmas... fir
Thanks for all your answers. I went to Yankee candle shop. Lots of lovely smells. I chose a little thing (tart ?) called `early sunrise` really fresh smelling and only £1.05. I think I had chucked out my oil burner years ago as it was getting a bit yukkie, but I bought one for £1 in a nearby shop.
Im going to try this today as a sampler and if its nice I will buy the bigger version for the weekend.
