Neighbours annoyingly parked car

We live on a cul de sac and there is a square of concreted land that can fit 4 cars on it.

One of the neighbours has his work van parked on it and plus his car is parked on the grassy part, which has created a big muddy wedge.

When i'm trying to reverse, it's really difficult as the only way out is to reverse it between the gap that his car and van make. I have banged my car into his once already. Its hard for people to get in and out due to such a small space. But he manages to park his van and his car there. How selfish, but not only that, it's hard to get in and out of the area.

I have tried to describe the scenario as best i can. It's difficult to try and say what i mean.

My question is, due to this being council land, is he allowed to park in this area, even though he's causing obstruction. And what happens if someone damages his car? Surely it's his own daft fault for parking there?


Also it's so selfish... Will be complaining to the council actually achieve anything???

i cant answer the legalities of where he is parking but suggest you speak to local community police officer or someone at council.

If that was the case though, i wouldn't be able to use my car as his 2 vehicles are in the way. I need to get to work etc.. I understand your point tho'. I'm going to contact the local council and see what they say.

LOL - That would get him to move.. The part that gets me the most is the fact he has 2 spaces and the rest of us don't have one :-(

are his cars always there? if they movem perhaps you could park in the place when he's not there? if they don't move, perhaps you shouldn't squeeze past if you know there is a chance you wont get out without hitting him?
Perhaps he is just oblivious? you could just go and tell him?

bednobs - If his cars not there his van is and vice versa. He actually goes to the effort of moving his car into the van space when he leaves for work each day, so he always ensures he has a space. I could park in his space, but then i'd be stopping peple reversing too.

I never thought of telling him as didn't want any friction with the neighbours. Plus he's done it for years so bet i have little chance of him actually doing it for us.

so you want him to leave a parking space empty and park elsewhere, just so you can ,manouvre more easily...?

Of course i'm not expecting him to leave a space free lol.. I'm not that daft.

He parks in an area of grass and has now caused it to go all slushy. In doing this, he is also making it very difficult for other residents to reverse out of their spaces. He has a space, but parks his work van here, this is why he parks the car on the grass.

Like Eddie says, the best way is to have a work with him in a neighbourly fashion. He may not even realise that he is making people angry. I would, at least, try to have a friendly word with him before complaining to any authorities.

FACT: If you cannot get out of your driveway you can call the police who will move it. BUT, not a great way to get on with your neighbours!!

If this is Council owned land or adopted highway they will be very interested to hear what is going on as your neighbour is damaging the verges - give your local highways department a quick call to complain.
