Suicide bees

Why would whoever put bees on the earth give them an sting to protect themselves with that actually kills them if they use it?

Means that they only use it as an ultimate deterrent - a bit like taking a suicide capsule.

went to a party lastnight and the kids were messing in a field otback and disturbed a wasps nest, poor boy was stung 13 times and they were all in his clothes, his sister got stung 9 times. Party goers were being attacked on the dance floor, them wasps were mad

bumble bee's will not die if they sting you, honey bees do though

I once had a wasp stuck in the toe of my slipper, it just kept on stinging and stinging. The pain was incredible.
I can't imagine what it was like for those children.

My understanding is that only female wasps can sting. Also I think that some types of wasp do die and some don't.

little boy (my nephew) went home and stayed there, my niece came back though and enjoyed rest of the night. Trying to find out how he is today. A few others (adults) got stung on head. My bloke made everyone laugh wacking some man he didnt even know round the head with a tea towell. lol

If you have an outside gathering, tie up a paper bag somewhere so it hangs down. Wasps think it's a rival nest and steer clear.

bees use there stings mostly for stinging other insects from which they can easily withdraw their sting.
