kipper.
Bought a pair of kipper fillets yesterday , in a box. Labelled caught and processed in Scotland. On the box were the words packed in Turkey. Turned the box over for the instructions , these were written in English and in Spanish.
So being nosy rang the Helpline to ask why.
Well the fish is caught and cleaned in Scotland , then sent to turkey for boxing. Boxes are made in Spain and then sent toTurkey for for the fish.Fish in the boxes returned to the UK for sale.
All this for £1a box.
What has happened to this country, do we not make anything any more?
Seems a long route for a kipper, good job they didn't have to swim!!!

Bit extreme that...
carbon footprint overload!
Id have asked them to sod the box and send me my freshkippers wrapped in a piece of paper!
has no on in this part of scotland realized they could make a killing if they boxed and packed them theirselves? Looks like someone needs to go onto dragons den and talk to Duncan Bannatyne.
boxing has been on the decline in scotland for a long time..this is the result.
Anyone needing some quick cash and the ability to knock up a few wooden crates can make a mint in Scotland. What a ridiculous carry on.
If they are boxed in Turkey, that makes the labour costs really low. That`s what happens when you want to pay £1 per box for kippers.
237SJ has hit the kipper on the head. Its all about labour costs. When people are prepared to work for a few cents per hour how can you compete.
