Aww, zzxxee ... I love it to bits, but ...

The new Marina Village is utterly, utterly ghastly.

Churchill Square shopping centre is a soul-less chav magnet.

The Brighton Centre was clearly designed by a blind architect.

The Pier has been turned from an English landmark into a garish tourist trap.

The Grosvenor Casino, a stunningly beautiful Art Deco masterpiece of a building has been re-branded as The G Casino. They have taken away our little blue membership cards, and replaced them with "Play For Points" cards ... (shudder!)

It's still the jolliest town in Britain, and I do still love it.

The pubs and bars are wonderful.

The restaurants are great (but fighting a rearguard action against the chains).

It's just that ... when I go to stay with him, he lives in Geneva, and it's wonderful, vibrant and sophisticated, clean, sexy, with a casino like something out of a Bond movie. Then he comes here, and I feel as if it's all a bit cheesey.

But we did have a bit of excitement.

On Wednesday night, we were walking home along the seafront, and the Thistle Hotel was being evacuated ... all of it !

This was about midnight. There were hundreds of people, quite a lot of them in PJs or dressing gowns.

That's weird, isn't it. If you had to leave your hotel, wouldn't you at least grab some clothes ???
