This isn't Nnorton Anti virus but a virus in itself called "Antivirus". You need to google to see how to get rid of it but it's a nasty little b*****d from what I remember.
Always helps when asking about computer problems if you post some basic details about the computer, such as which version of windows and make and model of computer.

without those details it's not possible to give precise directions, but a full scan with antimalwarebytes will probably clean it, you'll need to download it and get it onto the computer and install it while the computer is in safe mode with networking, let it update and then scan.

As it happens doc you are a little out of date, about 18months ago norton was utter crap, but they realised they had lost sight of their core business and had let their software become bloatware, they got their act together re-wrote it and it's now considered to be amongst one of the best about.

(however, for people that still have old versions, it is still rubbish)

Down load McAfee stinger and have a go with that

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

It's not a full product but a stand alone removal tool some some of the most common and nastiest pieces of malware
Half the problem with any antivirus is the user tbh..... most people seem to think the flaming great big warnings that pop up on the screen are an annoyance and just click "allow" to get rid of it.
>It just shows how crap norton is.

The problem on his computer is not a virus but malware/spyware.

He has Norton Anti Virus on his PC which looks for viruses so it wont find malware/spyware.

Try downloading malwarebytes and run that. That looks for malware/spyware and will often get rid of it.
Web site for malwarebytes

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Download it, install it, run an update, then run a full scan.

Maybe do it again in safe mode (it can often take two or more runs to get rid of some of this nasty malware).
