Can anybody please let me know pre 2002 should solicitors have sent you a copy of your house deeds upon completion of signing (I don't mean after paying off your mortgage after so many years) and if so am I now entitled to ask for them to pay for them as I never received any and have only just found out that I allegedly should have been sent them.

Many thanks in advance

Do you realise that if your land/house ir registered at the Land Registry, you don't need this 'copy of the house deeds' at all? You can download for yourself a copy of the LR details here for £4.

Since compulsory land registration has been around for quite a few years now, it seems unlikely your land is unregistered.
No, I've never had mine, the solicitors dealing with the purchase of any of my homes sent the deeds direct to the building society who hold my mortgage. I get them back when I've paid it off.
I wouldn't have expected a solicitor to have provided a copy of the deeds. When I bought my house (back in 1991) it was the lender (Woolwich) who provided me with a copy of the deeds.

As Buildersmate indicates, paper deeds are largely irrelevant anyway. It's what's on the Land Registry's electronic database that matters.
