You may have had worse but right now it's so annoying!
Starting 5th year at school, as one of my subjects i chose higher chemistry. I got back from summer to be told i can't do this course because i didn't do well enough in the exam (i got a 2.. equivalent of a B) and had to drop to int 2. I was upset by this as i want a career in chemistry and asked for a chance at higher. I've been told it's pretty much a no so am disappointed but i can't do anything about it. So i've already been mucked about with subjects. Then today i get into spanish (a subject which i didn't even want to take but because we chose exams in a column system i couldn't chose french which i wanted to take) to be told that i can't do spanish because i'm never going to pass the exam if i've never done it before and because costs have been cut we can't get a spanish assistant to help. SO, i've been mucked about by having to chose spanish when i dont want to, having to drop higher chemistry, and now not being able to take spanish!! There's no other subject that i want to take.
So i'm asking for free periods.

That sounds hard cheese, sophie, especially on your first day back. What would you do with the free periods?
What were the other subjects sophie?
Sophie, can you not resit your Chemistry or do an intermediate type of thing in 5th year then sit the higher in 6th? It'll give you another year to bone up and you'll have a better chance of doing well next year. Don't just take lots of free periods - I did that and I regret it now. Can't you do a crash O grade (or whatever they call them now) in a subject that you maybe don't think of as Academic but you'll enjoy - art or graphics or music or something like that? It might not help you in your career but you'll not just waste the year away and you might find you get something from it on a personal level.

With the free periods i would focus on the higher chemistry, so i think it's an advantage really it would mean i would really work for it. I am currently doing an intermediate 2 course in chemistry but am hoping to get into a higher course. I know maybe i should take the intermediate 2 but i just want a chance of higher. I would work so hard to get it and if i did badly, i don't mind taking it again in 6th year.
There really are no other subjects i enjoy - history, modern studies, business management, maths to name a few. I really think free periods would be best for me it just depends if they let me have them or not. I am a genuine hard working student and im not a trouble maker or anything and they know i would muck about. I hope i get them because i've had a very hard time otherwise!
Och well, stick in with the Chemistry and good luck x

Great. I got a firm 'no' for the free periods, and when i told my mum she wasn't exactly pleased so she's phoning them up now, i'll keep you up to date!!
And then.... last night my phone dies on me and just won't switch on at all so i'm going to have to get a new one.
And today i can feel a sickbug coming along all day.

What is WRONG with me!!!!!
