numbness

I crushed my pinky finger in a ping pong table a few weeks back and I cannot fell it, it is just numb... Will I ever get the feeling back in my finger?

It sounds like nerve-axon damage...V. common. If so, sensation will return, but oh, so slowly.

It is either a nerve damage called axonotmesis or neurotmesis. Probably the first. In which case the axons grow back along the undisrupted nerve sheaths.

Once they get going it is around 1 mm a day, I seem to think. If it is long nerve they have to grow down, then the place the growing point has reached, tingles when it is tapped = tinel's sign
