How many zeros are there in the numbers between 1 and 1000?

1 - 99 nine zeros (10, 20 etc)
100-109 - eleven zeros
110-199 - nine zeros
so 100 - 199 = 20 zeros
200-299 = 20 zeros
same for 300-399, 400-499 etc
thats a total of 9 + 9 lots of 20 = 189
add a further three if you include 1000.
