What are peoples thoughts on what "the creature" is, no spoilers please if you already know. (we're only on ep 4, next week)

I thought they said it was a giant polar bear?  I think it was on the aircraft that crashed previously on the island and somehow grew to a giant size?  (something it been eating on the island?)

There was a giant polar bear but there is another mysterious creature, makes a sound in the distance a bit like tha Langoliers (if you ever saw that mini series).  Maybe it is a Langolier.

I tell you what, if it turns out to be "a creature from the id" a la "Forbidden Planet" (or "The Tempest") I'm going to stop watching it.Ditto if they all turn out to be dead and in some sort of limbo.

By the way, is there any significance to the name of the character John Locke? (also the name of a philosopher.)

My guess is that it's a totally random made up monster.

Failing that, a dinosaur! Ha!

yes i think the john locke thing is significant but to tell why would be a bit of a spoiler. his theories might be significant to the situation

plus, they've not properly explored the island, so it could possibly be, not an island?
