We have Vista home on our laptop used mainly by my husband[who knows even less than I do about computers!!] I was entered as the administrator with a password.Somehow the password has been changed because when I log on as the administrator we get the message incorrect password. How can I restore the old password since for any change I have to log on as the administrator and I can't without the password?
If you have no chance of remembering it you can download a recovery tool. There are a few out there and you'll probably have to pay though. Google password recovery tool and you'll get a selection. My daughter did it with her laptop and locked herself out completely as she had set the admin account as the only user. I could've throttled her... :)
Thank you! How the password was changed is a mystery since I always use the same password for everything so there is no danger of forgetting it.I know this isn't a good idea but I don't use internet banking or have any vital information on my computer.Thank you again for your help.
I don't know how my daughter's changed either - she used her lappy every day and had to put the password in every time. And she had such a weird and wonderful password there's no way anyone could've guessed it (it was a very long quote from Spongebob Squarepants :) )
Silly question I know but in my experience it can happen....is caps lock on? Sorry, it's all I can think of! Have you tried leaving the password blank? Can you login as any other user with admin rights?
I did try using capitals but that was rejected too.I think my husband might have altered the password without realising what he was doing, since he is the main user of the laptop and I use the desktop computer.Hoping to solve the problem soon! Thanks for your help.
