What happened to the Lemon Trees?

About twelve years ago, a band called the Lemon Trees released a few catchy 60's-ish singles, and an album called, if my memory serves, named "Open Book".The main songwriter in the band was one Guy Chambers, the ex-World Party bod, who went on to write most of Robbie Williams early tunes.Who were the others? Where are they now?

The lemon trees formed in 1993 and disbanded in 1995, shortly before their second album

Two of the other members were twins Paul & Jeremy Stacey.  These brothers are now the guitarist and drummer in THE FINN BROTHERS

I loved the lemon Trees, but got into them around the time they split so never saw them live. As far as I have heard they split midway through recording their second album which was never released. The main man - singer / song writer Guy Chambers has gone on to write lots of songs for the likes of Robbie Williams etc (becoming rather rich and fat in the process) A great shame for fans like us, as the band never reached anything like their full potential, worse still they seem to virtually eradicated from all musical history - deleted from shops and not included in even the best music discographys or download websites. About time a licencing label gave them another shot.

Hi I was in the Lemon Trees. My name is Paul Holman. The other memebers were Alex Lewis Paul Stacey Jeremy Stacey and Guy Chambers. We recorded two albums but one was never released. Paul has since worked with Oasis and now runs his own studio and is currently touring with The Finn Brothers with his brother Jeremy. Jeremy has drummed on many hits and has toured with Shery Crow amongst others. He also has his own recording studio. Guy went on to fame and fortune with Robbie Williams but I lost touch with Alex. I run a record shop in Dorset. So now you know!!

Hello, Paul! (How odd...Still, it shows the power of AnswerBank!) I totally agree that the band and songs were under-rated, and still occasionally spin the 7" singles to this day.Good, distinctive sleeves, as well with "Let It Loose" (a studio shot featuring the band playing incredibly expensive looking retro instruments), pre-dating Oasis' similar cover for "Supersonic".

This may seem a bit odd, Paul...but were you the Dustin Hoffman-a-like in the "Graduate" homage video? (I don't have the records in front of me to check "who's who".)

Yes that was me playing Dustin in the Video. It was all a bit confusing 'cos the Lemonheads released a version of 'Mrs Robinson' at the same time!

 As for all the retro gear we were all obsessed with the Beatles, Beach Boys etc and aquired a taste for expensive vintage equipment to make us look and sound authentic. At least somebody noticed!!

As a (now former) bass player and Beatles nut, I was hugely impressed by the Hofner violin bass you are holding on the sleeve of "Let It Loose".Guy's Rickenbacker on the same sleeve loses points for having "slash" holes instead of Lennon-esque "f"s.(Blimey, I'm sad.)

hi my auntie ran the fan club for the lemon trees, she is right here and says "hello paul!". She sings in a band with paul holman called loose chippings, they're great! It is sad that the second album was not released, Paul wrote some beautiful songs for it, maybe one day it will be released, hope so! I was a big fan of the lemon trees too, my favourite songs were love is in your eyes and child of love,do you know the B side, written by alex "why doesthe pressure follow me home" if not I seriously recommend a listen.

Keep the lemon tree love alive jamesy boy!!!

My sister introduced me to The Lemon Trees when we were living in London and we saw them live somewhere. At that time a brother Frank had just died in Goa from an accident by drowning in a well and it was a traumatic time. There was something about the lyrics in so many of their songs that seemed to me to be about Frank or even him speaking through them and they were an extraordinary comfort. I have always wished I could pass on this appreciation to the band so maybe this will get through somehow!
