During WW2, did the Germans ever fight the English on English soil?

If someone had told me that some German airmen had a fire fight with some English soldiers on English soil, during WW2, I would have been very surprised.
But then when they had captured the Germans the soldiers took them to the pub and treated them to a pint, I would have said, yer in a 1940s propaganda film.
Until I read this.

I know that there was a lot of respect between Luftwaffe pilots and the R.A.F pilots e.g when Douglas Bader was captured after being shot down.
I also think that Adolph Galland the German fighter ace was the best man at Bader´s wedding or was it Godfather to one of Baders kids? However they continued to be great friends for the rest of their lives.
