security downloads
I have a normal little PC wth XP on it. I don't know what else it is. Yesterday, in the bottom right hand corner bar it said it had some Microsoft security up loads (or downloads) to install. The wizard thing came on to install them and I was surprised that it took about an hour to put them on. As soon as they were on, it took about 3 hours for the computer to do anything. I went into where it tells you what it's put on and there was about 16 security updates. I don't know if my computer's not big enough for all this stuff so I went into 'restore', but it said there was nothing different so nothing to restore. I then tried to un-install what it had put on but it said these couldn't be un-installed. The computer's now on a go-slow and it's a real go-slow! If I come on the net it takes about one and a half hours and if I don't want to go on the net, but go to a document or into Word, it takes about 3 hours to get there. (No exaggeration). I don't know the first thing about computers (as you've probably guessed), so I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you - Sue

Try downloading, installing and running Malwarebytes Anti- Malware. There are some fake security programs that pretend to be from MS...

Yes, it took about half an hour to get the 'choice' menu when I went into START, then another half hour to actually get to the 'turn off' button, then 45 minutes later I gave up and went downstairs and half an hour later had a look and it had turned off. I turned it back on this morning and it was the same, although maybe slightly faster. (maybe it was knackered and needed a night off!?)
