Anyone know which song contains this bit of the lyrics: 'under the microscope, hoping against hope'...it was on XFM tonight, but the dj just mumbled the band so I couldn't catch the name, but I think a bit more lyrics were: 'up towards the vanguard'...or summat like that...not much I'm afraid. Ta Muchly.

I'd normally embed a Youtube video into a post like this one but I seem to remember that your screen reader can't handle them. Instead I'll offer this link, which should start the Youtube video playing automatically. (This particular version is from the Jools Holland show, with a massive gong and a theremin):

Many Thanks Prudie and Carmalee, an amazing speed of response and I never thought to google it, I didn't know it would give an answer to so little a 'clue' - and an Extra Special Thanks to you Chris, yet more amazing research, but I don't think I'll risk the video...smile...really amazing replies.
woodelf - you are very welcome and what a gracious reply.

Hi Carmalee, I try to be, though others may say otherwise....though these seem to be in a minority....smile. I'm sorry Tambourine, Creed isn't the band/group in question, I actually googled my own prison and the lyrics are not the same...I'm sorry you had to be the one who was the butt of my google trial, but you have come to my aid in the past many times, so please don't be despondent!...smile.
