Poor Sky reception last night

In case anyone experienced poor reception last night but only on somechannels, I take it that the heavy cloud layer in the South of England was responsible for the notices to appear on the screen. If the weather does affect reception so badly, what can be done when we rely on digital alone when all the switchovers have been completed?

dont think you can do anything about atmospherics apart from get a bigger dish like a 3meter one or maybe even a 5 meter one if you have the cash?

We are down south as well and just as Emmerdale was about to start we kept losing reception but all other channels were fine

A 5meter dish!!!! assuming hugh is in the UK they would never need a dish that large even in bad weather! you'd only need about a 3meter dish in north Africa!

Your first step should be to get the alignment on the existing dish checked and also check no water has got into the connector on the dish.

The funny thing about it though I forgot it was on hd, so switched over to the hd channel and it was fine.

The bar indicators concerning signal strength and quality on that bad reception evening showed only about a third of the bar whereas last night they up to two thirds so my reckoning is that it was due to the weather. Why does it affect some channels but not others?

Technician has been around to find that my dish needed 'tweaking' which improved the signal by 20 to 30%. He did say, however, that severe weather can affect the signal. If the angle of the dish is just a little bit out of line, the weather can make conditions worse.
