Hi wendilla, my son has just informed me that his topic for school this term is space and I thought it would be good for him to see the space station. Any viewings at a reasonable time over the next week or so? Or can you direct me to a website or something so that we can check for suitable times? Thanks :o)

My apologies and thanks in the same post Mojo-jo-jo!
oh no apology needed. I'm new here.
This is a nice one too. It's animated so you can see it coming.

That's great MJ - I'll pass on these website links to his teacher - it would be good for the whole class to see - a lot of the parents aren't very "engaged" shall we say, so at least if the kids know when to look there may be a chance that they can see it anyway.
What a lovely idea Annie. Kids adore space, especially when they have an enthusiastic teacher.

He had to write down the three things he most wanted to find out about space:
1. What do astronauts eat?
2. Do aliens exist?
3. Can you make sandcastles out of the moon dust?

I bet the kids homework books were a laugh to read that morning!
lol I like the last one.
I bet moon dust would make great sandcastles because it's quite sharp.

he was thinking about putting something about astronaut's farts, but I talked him out of it!
hahahaha.
Kids are so funny. We think it, they say it!

Sorry I wasn't around earlier to answer you but Mojo has helped you out .The link above is interesting and you can get links from it. My youngest grandson is nearly 8 and he is very interested in it in fact he tells his teacher about it. Tonights view time 9 32pm for 3 minute viewing. Good luck with your viewing it is so easy to spot just look for the largest planet and it is like that just gliding across the sky

Hi mojo you didn't hijack. Free for anyone to reply. Nice you were around to help out. It is surprising how many people don't know they can see it and what it involves. I have been watching it for 4 years and it has actually got bigger with all the parts that have been added to it .If you look you can actually see the tail pieces at back .It is the size of 2 football fields just hard to imagine that it is so big up there.
I know Wendilla it's amazing isn't it?
Since they added Columbus and the new arrays it's become really rather beautiful.
In fact, it's kind of inspired me to get back into the observatory after a long illness, which can't be a bad thing!
Thank you :)
Spaceshuttle Discovery is due to take of for the Spacestation on 1st november. This is when we might be lucky to see a double fly bye depending on course the Spacestaion is if over uk. I have seen a double flyover twice and that is a lovely sight . Also there was a double sighting earlier in the year when the progress rocket went up.
