Hi
Have a fantastic 2 year old border collie - very energtic and intelligent. But whenever go to give him a hug or get affectionate - he begins to shake and utter a low growl! Leave him alone and he is full of life and fine.
Anything similar.
erm....you're in invading his space! Not all dogs like to be pulled about and cuddled. Just leave him to come to you for affection. Dogs all have different personalities, I have three Yorkies and tow Great Danes and they're all different. One Yorkie will jump on my lap as soon as I sit down. Another will not come near me, he prefers to sit on his own.One GD will cry for attention, the other will let me know when the occasion arises that I am allowed to cuddle her.
he's just telling you he isn't comfortable with the way you are holding him - he feels restricted and is being very polite by not biting you - respect that and don't cuddle him - he sounds a fantastic dog - I had one for over 18 years and she was an absolute gem but she didn't like to be cuddled. I now foster for order Collie Rescue so have a bit of experience with the breed.
My dog loves loads of cuddles, but not after she decides it's her bedtime. If you approach her after she had turned in for the night, you get the low growls!!
agree I had a border collie and he didnt like anyone rubbing his ears, my cousin did it and got in his face and got bit round the neck. Dont invade his space, dogs dont need cuddling
Mine does 4get. She positively asks for cuddles and affection and likes nothing better (unless it's bedtime) Like humans, they are all different. Just look how most mammals in the wild behave - they show the need for affection and close contact just like humans. Our pets don't usually have others of their own kind to interact with so have to rely on us.
I've got a collie who doesn't stop pestering for cuddles, wish she'd calm down if anything! but she spend her first 6mo in a pound, so didn't really expect anything else. my cousin has them as working dogs, he usually has around half a dozen at a time (big farm, big house!) and the personality differences between them are amazing, even from the ones that are related. they're just like people!
