I need to copy a range of cells, 9with the formulas) from one spreadsheet to another, new one, (just copying - not linking) anyway. I've tried to copy and past and copy and paste special but it comes up with errors (you know the green triangle in the corner) Is it because some of the formulas contain named cells?
Did I mention that....I hate excel!!!!!
It's usually because the range of cells you're trying to copy contain references to other cells (outside of those you've selected).
The references no longer make sense when pasted into the new sheet.
ok thanks vagrant - I can see where that fits in with what's happening when I try. a NEW Q then is: if I have to copy and paste that particular range but NOT the ranget relates to cells outside this range how do I go about it.? thanks in advance
Do you need your copied range to still have the formulas? It seems irrelevant if you're not copying everything those formulas relate to. If you just want the information from the cells, then do a Paste Special and select Values - that will strip out the formulas and copy only the information as text or numbers.
P.S. don't hate Excel - it's great when you get into it !
// Q then is: if I have to copy and paste that particular range but NOT the ranget relates to cells outside this range how do I go about it. //
You can't - it's impossible!
You can try Paste Special-> Values, but if that doesn't work, then you're trying to paste information that simply isn't there in the source data (what you selected in the first place).
Thank you both of you for your help - soz that I didn't help you last night - I'd turned my PC off in disgust at Microsoft excel by then :-) LOL
I finaly realised that what the Qpaper asked for was me to isolate and print a certain range of cells only and thus no copying pasting was required.....Iw as on the wrong track. Still your answers DID help me learn a bit more
