Mephisto - Chambers
4 Answers
Last year, I bought a Chambers dictionary and thesaurus CD-ROM. Was able to regularly complete Mephisto. Then I changed from PC to Mac. My new Chambers CD-ROM incompatible with Mac, so redundant. No Mac version. So I did an annual subscription to Chambers online. Online subscription recently expired. Online subscription can only be renewed with a code included in a new printed version of Chambers. I cannot do a Mephisto without access to Chambers, I cannot win a new Chambers without winning the Mephisto. Catch 22. New printed Chambers £40 + vat & p&p. Is there a solution for converting a PC cd-rom to a Mac, or do I have to bite the bullet and buy a printed Chambers to get the access code for the online version?

Why don't you contact Chambers? There's no good reason why their CD shouldn't work with PCs and Macs (particularly Intel-based Macs), though I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.
On their website, Chambers seem to indicate that the dictionary is available to Mac users, and in pdf/ebook format (ie cross-platform).
If your Mac does have an Intel processor, doesn't it have Boot Camp software to enable you to run Windows programs?
