I read today that the Irish government is probably eventually going to squander approximately €33 billion on the useless Anglo Irish Bank. Doing some basic math and using a statistic on the amount of households in Ireland I've worked out that they could have given each family around €25000 each instead of wasting it.

€33 000 000 000(amount wasted) / 1 287 958( no. of households) = €25 621.9535

Annoying or what?

The costs (promissory notes) will be spread over 10 years. Yes it's a lot of money but I think they'll hope to recoup the money over time- they may even make a profit on it. The government in the UK is already recouping money from its investment in RBS & Northern Rock.

Apparently they've admitted that €25 billion is gone and will never be seen again. And as its the Irish govt the figure is more likely €30 billion.
