Defragmenting
3 Answers
As a complete novice I need to know what to do when I can't defragment.I'm not at all sure what I'm doing wrong but it never gets past the white screen which I believe is the beginning and the pointer shows no movement beyond about 8.Also while I'm asking for help what is wrong for me to get the "error 645"internal fault when switching on to bt broadband.I never do anything other than clicking the connect button and most times I get through after a couple of goes. Most frustrating for an old granny like me. |

The other query you have regarding Error 645 - heres what Microsoft says about it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q199780/
The best way to defrag is to do it in safe mode.
As you start your computer keep tapping the F8 key. Follow the prompts. The display will look odd and your computer may run slower but don't worry. Once you get to your desktop simply start defrag as you would normally. When it's finished restart your computer which will then run as normal.
Just remember that during defrag you cannot use your computer for anything else.
Hope this helps.
