worked for more then 2 years,am i entitled to redundency?

My nephew worked with a one man band,who does landscaping and motorway planting etc. he has done this for quite a long time.then when work died he went to work in a factory for 2 years odd then went back and worked for over 2 years.
the man said to him there is no work and that was it,even tho he carried on working with another lad. He has all the wage slips. what should he do.
