Wasting of Water
It makes my blood boil when I run my hot water tap in the mornings only to have to waste about 1.5gals of water before it becomes warm enough to wash and shave. I have a Baxi combi 105e. I`m just hoping we won`t have to have a water meter fitted in the future.

However, we went onto a water meter a couple of years back, and the saving on our bills has been remarkable - I wouldn't worry about it too much.
I have the same sort of problem. I had a water meter fitted last autumn and am fearful of my water bill after this hot dry summer and trying to look after a vegetable plot in the garden. There are two water bills to be paid where I live - one for the measured supply and the other for drainage, water treatment etc. I understand that the two work in relation to each other, with drainage charges calculated on water usage. Going back to your point, it would probably be better to heat some water in a kettle. It seems to me there is a very real need for a compact water heater that can be fitted near a tap in the kitchen (probably not admissible in a bathroom for safety reasons). Can any reader recommend one?
I think Heathfield has a good idea Carlton. I fitted one of these in an artist's studio recently that had cold water only. Instant basinful ............ 3.1kw

Coldicote you are right, the drinking water supply and the wastewater charges are linked, the waste charge is based on your incoming water meter reading. As I've said, my costs - despite the wait for hot water - reduced radically after I had the meter fitted. Yes I use a hose in my garden, but I also have two water butts (front and back gardens) to catch the water off the roofs, for general watering.
