I've just had my bill for the incoming water supply to the house. Since we went on a water meter our bills have dropped hugely, I'm currently paying £8 a month (plus an extra separate charge for disposal of surface water etc.) There's a chart on the bill which reckons I use on average 158 litres a day. Given that I get the hose out in the summer, and although I'm not wasteful we still have the washing machine, shower, bath and dishwasher, I think that's pretty good. What do you think?

Hi Boxtops

This table shows how much water UK households use. The figures are expressed in cubic metres per year:

Here are the same figures expressed in litres per day:

> > > Low / Average / High
One 123 / 181 / 274
Two 151 / 301 / 373
Three 225 / 373 / 479
Four 301 / 452 / 575
Five 373/ 499 / 671
Six 425 / 548 / 726

Now you've got me worried Buenchico. We've been on a meter for years and we have large rainfall tanks for non-household use yet the two of us have I calculate used in the last year 147 cubic metres which according to the table is very high. Something is wrong somewhere and I need to find out quick!
If we're comparing figures, I'm really frugal with water, using around 15 cubic metres per year (= about 40 litres per day). My last two quarterly bills were for 4 cubic metres and 3 cubic metres.
