My daughter says she is not paying the mortgage her mother co-signed

my daughter bought a home in 2005 and without my permissionmy wife co-signed the note and I signed to not be involved but living in Louisiana there is community property laws and it still involves me as well as my wife. Our daughter had a good job to pay the mortgage and while we were on a vacation married a childhood sweetheart who had promised to work things out. Due to previous hardships with her ex-husband she had gotten behind which we settled the amount due with the mortgage co. to be able to keep up the loan without foreclosure. With the note now due we have been told by her and her new husband that they were not able to pay and are not paying to which the loan has been thrown on us to keep up. The mortgage co. will not talk to my wife b/c the note is in my daughters name only but in research they found where my wife is the guarrantor. With a power of attorney requested by the mortgage co. they still will not speak to my wife and want my daughters permission to speak. We called our daughter to work out the matter but she is adament to let it go b/c she feels they will do nothing about it b/ she has let a car go and nothing has happened. this has brought hardship on my wife and me b/c my savings is my retirement. My wife is working as a teacher and supplements our income but now there is this burden. I can't understand how our daughter can do this and we are the responsble party and then she gets off scott free. I told my wife that this is not fare and we may need to legally pursue the newlyweds. Is this wrong or is there any law that supports abandonement of this type.
