Cleaning old enamel baths....

Do you have any tips on cleaning enamel baths? The bath in question is at least 50 years old and is particularly stained around the plughole and around the waterline.

You'll never get all the staining out. Once it gets bad, that's it.
You need a recon. It can be done.

I think you could try lemon juice on the stains .

citric acid (which you can obtain in ther baking dept. of your local supermarket) is a more concentrated form than is available in lemons. It will remove iron stains and lime but not much else. If the enamel is pitted then it will discolour easily and need regular treatments with bleach.

Albags is right,you need a diy or call in a professional to re coat the bath...

I asked similar question. Answer was use a 50.50 white wine vinegar & water mix. Rub on & rinse off. However I found White Sprit did the job in seconds. Just remember to give the tub a nice wash afterwards with a gentle soap and dry polish the tub. And wash the cloth you used to apply the White Sprit - in the sink not the machine and dry it out. You don't want the smell. But if its very old tub may not be worth the effort but you could give it a little go and see.
