I have my landline and broadband with BT, and my basic charges are £84.88 per quarter.
I'm an O2 mobile phone user, and can get the landline and better broadband from them for £46.50 per quarter.
seems like a no brainer.. does anyone have any advise or opinions?

I would say go for it.
Your Exchange is LLU (local loop unbundled) for O2, which means that you would be connecting to O2s own equipment in the exchange, as opposed to a non LLU setup where you would still be using BTs equipment and just paying the rental to O2.
The upshot of this is you should get a more stable and faster connection (posibly upto 20Mb/s + )
Your exchange is also LLU for sky, so if you also have SKY TV it may be worth you looking at SKY phone/TV/broadband packages too.
(though, having said all that, if you are in one of the virgin cable areas of your town I would personally be looking at that :))

Chuck, thanks.. was a bit confused by the kink (doh!). my ex has Virgin cable and he's nearby. I'll have a peek. my bt connection has been a bit unstable recently.
bt will charge me to keep my email addy (I've had the same one for over 10 yrs) about £1.50 a month, which is probably not worth doing. I assume I can keep my landline number?

Yes, it is stange at first, you soon get used to it though :-p
If you do decide to change to another email provider go for one that is not linked to your ISP, then if you change again in the future you can keep the address.
You can certianly keep your number if you went to O2 or any other ADSL provider, I'm not sure about if you change to virgin..... I'll go check :)
Yep, seems you can as, laong as you don't cancel the BT line and then take out a new contract with virgin, you have to get the number transfered while the line is active and then cancel it.
