Why have I got frogs in my garden ?

I havent got a pond in my garden and my neighbours dont eiher, so why I am suddenly getting frogs in my garden. I have seen about half a dozen in the last 3 or so weeks and tonight there was one sitting on my patio. Admittedly they are only tiny at the moment but they give me the heebie jeebies, and I dont want them living here when theyre bigger.

Could they be tree frogs? If so they may very well remain small.

Frogs take 3-4 years to mature sexually. In the meantime, they disappear into peoples gardens and among dense undergrowth where they happily munch away on all sorts of insects. You will see them more on warm, damp evenings when they are out looking for slugs. Adult frogs return to the water around february in order to pick a mate (or 10 !!!). Once they've spawned, they will return to the garden again....although they never stray very far from water and some prefer to stay in water all year. Toads tend to rely on water a lot less and only return to ponds to spawn. If you have them in your garden, they're likely to stay unless you reove their food scources (nearly impossible). They are great for the garden and a good sign that your garden is "creature friendly"....enjoy them and whatever you do, don't hurt or kill them

This is my pet frog.I love him ..he eats the nasty slugs.
Don't get rid of them.

When I was a kid, there were many toads in our yard at night, and we would turn on the porch light, which attracted large june bugs, and watch the toads snap them up with their long tongues.  The whole family would eat pop corn and watch the feeding toads.  We had hours of family entertainment.  It was much better than TV.  You should be happy you have frogs in your garden.  You should see if you can observe them eating insects.  It is quite fascinating.

Yes I have lots of frogs too, no pond, just lots of places where they can feel safely tucked away, but I do have trays of water where they can soak their feet!  They're all different - love your handsome fella shaneystar - & I've given them royal names just in case one of turns into a prince!!

Think I have the only pond in our street- only a small pond but getting on for about 40 frogs thrashing around in there come breeding time. Rest of the year there are still around a dozen sitting in the water or lounging on the bank. Well worth having.

Count your blessings Angel, they eat slugs and other pests, Frogs and Hedgehogs are the gardens two best natural assets.

Frogs migrate over a large area from the pond in which they spawned and can crawl under tiny gaps in fences which explains why they've appeared in your garden without you having a pond.  They are delightful creatures and honestly won't hurt you.  This time of year there are many little froglets around (often less than one inch in length) who will have left their ponds forthe first time around June/July, so please be very careful when mowing your lawn.  They're often too small to see at this stage until you suddenly spot them frantically trying to hop out of the path of your mower.   I always do a quick check on the lawn first these days after I chopped a froglet up by accident in the mower blades.  (I felt like a murderer for days.)

I've got the same have seen them in my garden and certainly don't want them have put me off any of the lovely lettuce I'd grown have been round my garden fences and blocked any gaps they have come from new people next door who have a pond.as you say they are small but will grow and I saw huge one other day heebie jeebies indeed when your working in the garden and they jump everywhere its upsetting as I really liked doing the garden and growing some veg .

pega..im glad you feel the same, was beginning to think I was a bit of an oddity after reading all the other answers. When I'm out in my garden now my eyes are everywhere ready to jump at the slightest movement lol
