If there is any life left in it, put it on Freecycle (Freegle in some areas) or if not then councils do remove but most charge around £10.
In our area, you just put things like that on the pavement, perhaps with a note saying 'help yourself'. They've always gone within 24 hours.
Look up your local council online.Where I live you are aloud 2 free pickups a year(£15 after)now where does jno live?I fancy a nice chippendale:O)
doesnt anyone have a van to lend so you can take it to a local recycling centre?
In our area, the council sends a lorry out every few weeks. It stops at various points in the neighbourhood and leaflets the area with timetables a couple of weeks in advance. All you have to do is get your rubbish down to the nearest stopping point when it's there and they'll even give you a hand lifting it in.

It's worth enquiring where you are.
I had this dilemma last week. I stuck mine on Ebay for a 24 hour auction and they went for £10.50!

hardly worth it, financially.. but they came and took them the same day.
some charities will take them if the paper fire tags are still attached.
Put it on garden, cover in paraffin, light blue touch paper and retire.
All you'll be left with is metal springs, tacks, staples etc which will fit in your car (or the dustbin).
Alternatively, break it up and take to tip bit by bit.
