What could this film be???

OH was reminded of a film he saw when he was just a nipper and wants to try and see it again,but he doesn't know the name of it,can anyone help?
It was probably made and set in the late 70's early 80's,and it was about an aircraft carrier(of that time)that went back in time to the second world war.
Not much to go on,but I have faith in you guys!
He says he doesn't think it has been shown on tv again since then so wasn't a big blockbuster type film.
Any ideas?

He saw the Philadelphia experiment a few years ago,I know there are a few versions so maybe keep trying them.That seems to be more of a romantic film,the one he saw was more si fi.
I will look into the Final Countdown though,that seems more likely
