Do you all have central heating?

I'm asking as we've only just cobbled together the money to get it installed in our house (job losses, children, debts, bills ets always got in the way) And I'm quite excited about it. However EVERYONE who I speak to/tell about it looks at me in utter horror, shock and amazement and said "You don't have central heating...?".

So....my question is....anyone else not have it?

no and i wish i did, last winter was horrible!
I live in an old rattly 8 bed farmhouse, the only heating we have is a woodburner. We also have a few calor mobile heaters but the price if gas has rocketed. I sit with my coat on all winter. Its really odd, because people always love to come and stay here!!!!!! I love it on winter nights when I go to bed early and snuggle under the duvet and watch TV. .Great till you need the loo..then it takes courage to get outa bed.!! I was once told by a surveyor that if we put central heating in..the house would probably fall down. Anyway, we cant afford it, so will keep on shivering. Come to think of it, we dont get many colds or flu bugs.Good luck with your dream BOO, hope it all works out.
My parents were hard-up and also quite weird, so we went without the norms of the early 60s - no fridge, no telephone, no fitted carpet, and certainly no central heating. But I can't imagine now being without it - the north west is damp even in the height of summer and just the thought of the endless condensation, bathrooms that never dry out, the sheer terror of having to get out of bed in the night for a freezing cold bathroom call.....no. Couldn't do it.
I think you have to pass picturesqueness tests to live in places like Mevagissey. Having your own trawler would be an advantage.
we live in a former mining area and the houses which were built only about 20 years ago in our village didn't have CH (to encourage the miners to use their coal allowance)and quite a few still don't.
The only good thing about Central Heating is when you`ve been out and come home to a warm house
Mosaic, we had none of those things in the early 60's either, except a telephone! We had a big 15 bedroom house and in the mornings, our face flannels ould be frozen. And mother insisted we took of our vest and knickers at night and put on cold pj's. Cruel days!
It's making me shiver just reading this thread!
Absolutely love my central heating.I find I don't need it on quite as much since I had cavity wall insulation done though.I am also so pleased to know I am not the only one who leaves the back door open for the dogs' convenience, that might shut my son up from nagging me about it.
