can I ask the ladies on here, who have gone through this what age you were when it first started, the reason I ask is i'm 53 later this year and there are no signs of it.

I'm in about the 8th year of it and it started @ 48.

My mother was 47 when she thought she'd started the 'change' but it turned out to be me her 9th child! She said she never had a period again after I was born.
I was regular untill 53 then stopped, that was it. Apart from a few night sweats I never had another symptom.
