In the hand book for the 6230i it says that contacts are saved in the used memory which I assume is NOT the sim card.
Press Menu, select Contacts then add new contacts.
You may have to enter them all again unless Vagrants reply conjures up a response?
With many phones, you can choose whether you store names/numbers on the SIM card or in the phone itself.
I guess that on your old phone, this is the case.
On your old phone, there will be an option somewhere to copy from phone to SIM - if you post the model, someone can probably help.

Thank you both Vagrant and Wak! There were no Contact numbers on my Sim card; they were in phone memory! I have since copied them on to Sim and all is fine now! Many thanks!
