Anyone from Chesterfield?
13 Answers
I attended a funeral in Chesterfield last Monday. The names of mourners were taken & i am wondering if any of the local newspapers there do accounts of funerals.
I have looked on the website of the local Chesterfield newspaper but can't see funeral accounts listed, only obituary notices.

Dreadful paper - if it isnt about sport they dont want to publish it. Wouldn't know a good news story if it bit them. Haven't bought it in years, look it up on line and they usually have just a max of 10 stories a good 50% of which is ruddy sport
No you are not strange in my book Jem. Have lived here all my life and through various contacts and 2 very public jobs i know an awful lot of people so I scan the obits first too. It is amazing how many people I recognise in there and sometimes I have picked up on news in time to write to the family or even attend the funerals. Cant help myself sometimes ;o)
I scan the obits as well ttfn after I joyously phoned my pal to let her know that H and I had only gone and got married without telling (hardly) anyone to be met with 'o thats good -did you not know mum died last week'.I swear i'll never not read them again as she assumed we would have all known (and prob thought I had let her down altho she didnt say).I was gutted as her mum was a dear wee friend.
Dris - that is my only reason for scanning them daily - it is not idle curiosity. On one occasion I saw the obit of a close friend's mother. I had less than 24 hours notice of the funeral, but took the day off work, arranged a floral tribute which I collected and delivered to the undertakers just in time. When my friend saw me at the funeral she was so pleased I was there and when I asked her why she hadn't let me know she said she didn't want to upset me. I would dread being in the position you found yourself in, I feel for you x
