is internet explorer better than firefox?

If Firefox is giving problems, simply re-install it (without uninstalling it first). Your bookmarks and personal settings will be preserved and everything should function normally again.

Internet Explorer hasn't got many fans around here. Firefox is generally regarded as being a far superior browser, largely (but not solely) because of the wide range of plug-ins available for it.

Given that nearly everyone has Internet Explorer, the fact that 40% of all users choose to use something different is a strong indication that the program is far from being the best available:

i suppose it depends where your using internet. i´m in a librarry with wi-fi. but due to a high numbers of users its impossible to get firefox, so we´re stuck with i.explorer.

I use IE and dabbled with the other browsers when the 'browser choice' thing came along but none gave me me any firm reason to move.
I'm just after a no-thrills broswer and IE works just fine for me but a couple of the others lacked functions which I do use within IE and also had added functions that would actually prove to be a hindrance to me but its all horses for courses!

I'm unable to understand how you 'can't get' Firefox in a library with wi-fi (unless you're using the libraries own computers, which don't have it installed anyway). Your laptop should be able to use any browser on a wi-fi connection. (Stating that you 'can't get Firefox' is a bit like saying that you 'can't get Word'. It doesn't make sense. If the program is on your laptop it should be accessible wherever you go).

hi bueno chico, i´m now with googlechrome. the library problem is a little strange to explain. i live in madrid, they have these places called aulas, council backed computer places. each one has around 20 pc´s, plus wi-fi.
when i used to go in august it was empty, so wi-fi was quick no probs. only went back today after a month away. the place was packed due to a new pc course. this meant that the internet was very very slow. i just cudnt get firefox, only barely got internet explorer.
now ive got googlechrome, we´ll see what happens next time

I fail to understand why people use Firefox as it is no better then IE8 .The argument that it is safer is a myth because it the most patched browser after IE The new IE9 just released is 4 times faster than it and it is still only in BETA IE 8 is a good browser and if set up correctly will always work.

Well, if you use IE7, IE8, or IE9 you owe a debt of gratitude to all Firefox users, as without it, none of them would exist.
If people stopped using alternative browsers, MS would instantly stop development on browsers.

piggynose - What you're saying doesn't make sense.

If you always use your own laptop, then your laptop will always have the same programs, like internet browsers, installed on it. If I start up my computer and load Firefox or Internet Explorer, those programs will ALWAYS load up, irrespective of how many people may be using those programs on other computers. Those programs are local to your own machine, they run on your laptop.

Therefore, you cannot be in a position where you can't access them because too many people are using them at once. The internet access you have might be overloaded with other people if you're trying to use the same network, but using a different internet browser should make no difference. That's like saying you're stuck in traffic in your Honda, but you're moving along fine if you travel on the same road in your Ford. The car has no bearing on the traffic situation, just as your browser choice has no bearing on network congestion.

It is fine for me so why would I change to something else ?
