I need to elaborate on the points below along with a few examples

Mtv & popular culture:

1. testing ground for film techniques

2. promotes film not just music

3. introduces female performers, resistance and identity.

It did provide a huge boost for music videos, since it screened them day and night; previously they'd mostly been confined to shows like Top of the Pops. It also provided a boost to British music, since people here were more used to making the videos than they were in the states, or so I'm told. And yes, it's true that these days cinema films are edited much more busily than in the past - jump cuts every five seconds rather than 30 (you'll have to look up the exact statistics) - and this is almost certainly the influence of MTV and of people who've grown up watching it and are accustomed to swifter editing.
'3. introduces female performers'

yes, often quite revealing. its a shame that we can't watch these music channels during the day without parental supervision, some of these vids really are not suitable for young kids.

yesterday we were watching/listening to some music channel and the sugababes came on with some song or othe and were gyrating all over the place and rubbing their booties yup and down some random fella's. don't get me wrong, i thought it was briliant, but not for my 2 young girls to watch.
