conpassionate leave
9 Answers
Hi there, hope someone can advise me. My dear dad in law died last Wednesday, and his funeral is coming up on Friday 1st. I am rota'd to work that day and my boss said i will have to take annual leave for this. What is my entitlement to compassionate leave?
Thanx in advance.

many years ago i worked in a company and a colleague took many days of 'compassionate leave' when i was there... to go fishing
he eventually got found out when it was noticed that his three grandmothers had died during one year

I work in the NHS and we are allowed 6 days' leave per year for compassionate reasons. Very different from when I worked in the private sector when my dad died, he lived many miles away so I had to have time off work for all the necessities and the funeral - they gave me 2 days' compassionate leave and the rest was holiday.
Thinking of you cazzrob, glad you have managed to switch your shifts - you need to be there.
