can landlord do this

hi all, i cant believe my landlord i singed up to 365 day least,lead on to believe it was going to be long term my landlord was very happy with me ,i took great care of his proptery,due too my least it expired on end of august,the landlord came to see the gutting pipe last wl didnt mention anything then i get a letter saying ,due to market research the rent has gone up to 600 pcm from 550,6 weeks after the least ended giving me 2 weeks to pay or go,theres just me and my 9 year old son,if it was the other way round i would owe him,i have no new least that ive signed nothing please could any-1 give some advice many thanks

if you went beyond the last day of the tenancy the the assured shorthold tenancy becomes a statutory periodic tenancy. He must give you two months notice.
