Hi, 2 year old lab got attacked in the park today by a staff and is badly cut, we took him the vets and the vet shaved around the wounds and gave him an injection, he also gave me antibiotics to give to him, my dogs home now but he wont let me clean his wounds and it seems that theyre very itchy, he also wont settle and hes keeping me awake! :( Can anyone give me any advise on how to stop the itchyness? TIA

I hope you got the name/address of the owner of the staffy for compensation.
Might have to be one of those horrible 'lampshade' things to stop him scratching.

No i never unfortunately, was just glad to get my dog away, he cant scratch it anyway because of where the cuts are but its really irratating him ( and me! ) & everytime i try and clean it he tries to bite me which hes never done before.
Hi bigbus - as much as you might not want to it would be a good idea to muzzle your pet with a crepe bandage so he cannot bite you. It is a simple and effective way to stay safe http://www.dummies.co...-an-injured-dog.html.

Thanks ttfn, will try that tomorrow, just hope it works, hes driving me insane!
I'm sure he's still very stressed from everything that happened today bigbus. Hopefully he would have calmed down a bit tomorrow and will let you clean his wounds.

@andyvon, wishful thinkin, hes still really aggitated :(
Often the areas that has been shaved becomes very irritated and itchy - if you feel it it is probably quite hot - it's like a razor rash but should settle in a day or two. I put calamine lotion around the area when it happened to my dog but check with your vet first - I don't know anything about your dog's wound, position or state and wwould hate to advise anything to make the situation worse.

Thanks Carmalee, hes alot better now, he doesnt seem to be as itchy, took him the park before and thankfully his confidence hasnt been knocked and hes still chasing after other dogs :) Thanks for everyones advise
that's good news - seems he's determined to mend asap!
so pleased to read this bigbus, hope your boy recovers swiftly, well done feller!
My little dog got very raw at his anus last year - I restricted him with a bit of movement with a big scarf so that he could not get at and lick it and kept putting on liquid paraffin which was only a pound in the chemist - done the very trick and he never looked back.
connemmara - poor dog, that it bound to be sore. Ouch!

bigbus - you will have to take your dog to Judo or something. The staffies are lovely wee dogs - but dangerous in the wrong hands. I hope your wee lad gets better soon.
