Anti bark collars

Sorry clicked the wrong button before.At my dog training class the teacher recomends these (anti bark collars) for dogs that bark and jump up i trust him but at £100 it could be a costly mistake also although they only spray water do you think there cruel has anyone used them and were they worth the money ive tried shaking bottles with stones in and the usual commands what do you all think thank you in advance.

I reckon that they are papering over a crack. They don't teach the dog calm behaviour and mental attitude, they teach it not to do certain things WHILE IT HAS THE COLLAR ON....and if your teacher recommends them then I don't reckon much to the teacher.

Here's an idea! Why don't you just spray your dog with a water bottle if it is that much of a problem? There, I just saved you 99.50 :O}

Seriously though, all training aids can work, but so does good training!
When I got an 11 month old Great Dane from rescue he turned lead aggressive after being attacked by a Staffie. After that he got walked on a loose lead and if he so much as looked at another dog he got a squirt of water from a bottle....cured in 3 days.
Job done!

I'm with the both of the above, Train your dog, go to a different dog trainer.

Eddie, they don't have to dislike it, though it helps, its the shock and distraction that is the key. It worked on my JRT years ago, he also loved to play with the hose pipe etc, not the collar, just the water bottle.

Eddie,as you can see from my avatar, My Gilligan jumps up on me, but he will only do it when asked, never other wise, he is 10.5 stone and would knock over the unsuspecting, so being really strict is imperative, this is a bit of a trick to show the height of a wolfie and most wolfies will do this, however, a lab is also a big heavy dog and should never be permitted to do this unless you specifically want this but not a good idea really!!

Every time he jumps up, you must immediately push him down and with a quick but firm reprimand.
Remember there are no circumstances to which he is permitted to jump up.

as well as the correction, we dealt with it with ours by teaching sit for a treat. Visitors to the house are given a treat to meet the dogs with and are told to tell the dogs to sit before giving it (DH and I are always there to reinforce and correct bad behaviour) It pays off fast, our dogs only have to meet visitors now for the bum to hit the carpet.

I know some folk don't agree with them, but I used one of the sonic ones for my dog. He had a terrible habit of barking when he was left alone (either when I was out or when I was in bed). The sound didn't appear to cause him any discomfort - it just distracted him. I only had to use it for a few weeks and it solved the problem and it cost me under a tenner on line.
