Epeon printer printing delay

I have an Epson stylus photo RX685 which has developed a problem I would like to resolve and hope for the usual good advice from ABers. What is happening is when I ask it to print it takes a long time to actually start the printing although when it actually starts it appears to print at normal speed. I have phoned the nearest Epson specialist who suggests I take it in and he will look at it. Unfortunately he is about ten miles away and it may be a few days before I can visit him. If any of the usual experts on this site have any ideas what might be the cause and suggest anything I might try at home first I would be very grateful

Does it take a long time even when printing a simple sentence? I have seen a similar problem when the print was heavy on graphics and it will take the printer a long time to buffer the print.

Right-click the printer's icon and choose properties
Click on the Advanced tab
Ensure that the following are checked:
Spool print documents...
Start printing immediately

You could also have too many other programs running in the background which are also using the CPU and/or memory???

earlier today I post a thank you which is not showing. Have checked rojash advice - OK Squarebear yes all long and short, don't think too many programmes open but will check this next time I'm printing otherwise take to nearest centre to check
