Wheras in Lincolnshire which is a cheaper area u would expect to be on minimum wage or slightly higher. 6 for a driving job part time such as that would be considered a decent enough wage u see.
When u say u have to put away for tax do u mean he is working self employed then? if so then everyone self employed has to do invoicing and tax records! That isnt something u get paid for, thats something u have to do to show the tax man what to pay in tax and invoicing to get paid from your client (interflora). If you worked for interflora as a employed person then interflora would be liable for all that, but u wouldnt get the perks of Tax Breaks that are given to self employed workers. how much were u expecting to receive after tax? as most jobs where u work for a company that advertise 6 an hour wouldnt say thats after tax, its always before so everyone else is being taxed as well and losing their portion of wages, the only difference being that u dont have yours taken out before its given to u, yours is asked for afterwards as a lump sum etc. Therefore a job that is 6 per hour, the worker would be walking away with approx 4.80 of it and the rest would have been deducted.(something in the region of 20% give or take the tax and Nat. Insur) It is the same for u, when u get paid that 6 u shouldnt see it as u have earnt 6, u should see it as u have earnt 4.80 and the rest is put away towards that tax. If u are struggling to live on that 4.80 then its obvious that u need more hours of work or a second job. Very few couples who rent or own homes these days can afford to have one of them not working or working part time unless one of them is earning in excess of 25K a year. Hope that sort of makes sense?
