Whenever there is a blackberry bush in fruit I notice that there are red berries that grow along with the blackeberries. These berries are also quite hard to the touch unlike the blackberries which are soft. What are these red berries?

If they are single berries on different bushes then they could be hawthorn berries or rosehips.
